100th Anniversary - SS Kyle - Harbour Grace, NL

This year, 2013, is the 100th year of the famous SS Kyle.
Since 1967, this historic Alphabet ship has been aground at Riverhead, Harbour Grace, Newfoundland.

Below is link to the website by SS Kyle Historical Foundation

"This website was originally created in Memory of Libby's Dad, Captain Guy Earle "Our
Greatest Navigator",  also purchasing the SS Kyle and known as North America's
Youngest ticketed Sea Captain in 1933."

Kyle was painted for the 1997 Cabot celebrations.

Last night, I saw news coverage of Libby, daughter of Captain Guy Earle, making her annual swim to the Kyle.

I met Phil, son of Captain Guy Earle, at Dal U. in Bio-Chem class 1971-72.
As a boy, Phil used to go to sea - even out to the Flemish Cap with his father.
Since he retired, Phil returned to Carbonear and is often heard on the Fisherman's Broadcast.

My friend, Milton Doyle, (60) 1st Engineer on the icebreaker CCGS Labrador, had sailed on the Kyle.  He took me to visit the SS Kyle in 1981.
